Laurent Bayon, the French lawyer representing Hannibal Gaddafi, has announced that his client is close to leaving Lebanon. This development occurs despite the continued ambiguity surrounding the position of Lebanese Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, regarding the procedures for Gaddafi’s release.
In statements to Al Arabiya Al Hadath, Bayon explained that the Lebanese judiciary found grounds to release Gaddafi following years of detention. This reversal is based on the absence of any legal evidence that incriminates him or connects him to the 1978 disappearance of Imam Moussa al-Sadr. The lawyer stressed that Hannibal was only three years old when the incident took place, rendering the accusation illogical.
Bayon further noted that relevant Libyan authorities submitted official documentation that conclusively proves Hannibal’s lack of involvement in the case, or any associated political or security arrangements. The lawyer concluded by indicating that the Lebanese judge overseeing the file ultimately accepted the veracity of these statements and Gaddafi’s non-involvement, which has expedited the approach of his release
