The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, operating under the Government of National Unity, has announced a significant step forward in Libya’s journey towards digital transformation. This announcement centres on a new cooperation agreement reached with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), specifically designed to back digital transition and the fundamental development of the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure.
This mutual understanding was formalised on the fringes of the Human Rights Council meetings in Geneva (held between 10 and 12 November), during a meeting between the Acting Minister, Al-Taher Al-Ba’our, and the ITU Secretary-General, Doreen Bogdan-Martin.
Discussions focused on several key areas. These included specific programs aimed at elevating national capacity in information technology and providing essential support for digital initiatives targeting young people. Furthermore, the two sides stressed the importance of future collaboration on technological innovation and laying the foundations for a sustainable digital economy that aligns with Libya’s overarching development vision.
For her part, Bogdan-Martin affirmed the Union’s full readiness to provide technical and technological backing for all Libyan projects related to digital transition. Correspondingly, Al-Ba’our emphasised Libya’s commitment to deepening this partnership with the ITU to ensure the country’s participation and active presence are boosted across all international digital forums.
