Tripoli witnessed a diplomatic gathering yesterday, Tuesday, to mark the 71st anniversary of the start of the Algerian War of Independence, an event dating back to November 1954. The Algerian Embassy hosted the ceremony, which drew a notable Libyan and international presence.
Lieutenant General Mohamed Al-Haddad, the Chief of General Staff of the Libyan Army, led the participating delegation, attending the celebration alongside the Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces.
Beyond the military leadership, the event saw attendance from members of the High Council of State, several Libyan government ministers, and their representatives. The guest list also featured prominent international figures, including the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General to Libya, along with numerous ambassadors and diplomats, other local and international political personalities, and members of the Algerian community.
The Revolution of November 1, 1954, constitutes a pivotal landmark in Algerian history, representing the culmination of political and popular struggles that had spanned decades. The clear mandate of this revolution was to secure Algeria’s independence and permanently break the grip of French colonialism.
