A ministerial track conference on security cooperation convened in Lisbon, bringing together Interior Ministers from European Union states and several counterparts from the Middle East and North Africa, as well as representatives from relevant international and regional security organisations.
The proceedings focused on establishing shared operational mechanisms and developing frameworks for coordination among participating nations, with emphasis on exchanging information and expertise. The objective of these sessions was to bolster stability across the Mediterranean basin and sharpen the effectiveness of regional efforts against cross-border threats.
Against this backdrop, Major General Emad Al-Trabelsi, the Minister of Interior for Libya’s Government of National Unity, affirmed his ministry’s backing for this security initiative. In his address, Al-Trabelsi underscored the critical importance of strengthening regional partnerships as an essential strategy for confronting shared threats, specifically citing terrorism, organized crime, and irregular migration.
Utilising the conference sidelines, the Libyan minister conducted a series of intensive bilateral meetings with Arab, European, and international delegations. These discussions aimed at exploring avenues to deepen security cooperation, develop joint programmes, and broaden coordination across key areas such as training, surveillance procedures, and data sharing.
