Benghazi’s Al-Ahly Basketball Storms Into BAL Finals After Decisive Win Over Tombouctou

Al-Ahly Benghazi’s basketball team secured their place in the finals of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), following a convincing and crushing victory over Mali’s CRB Tombouctou. The semi-final fixture, played on Saturday evening in Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, concluded with a powerful Libyan triumph, 103 points to 76.

Al-Ahly Benghazi established absolute dominance from the opening whistle, setting the stage for their victory by winning the first quarter (27–10). The Libyan side maintained their advantage in the second period, edging it 25–24, to confirm a commanding 52–34 lead at the half-time break.

Al-Ahly’s brilliant performance continued into the third quarter, but the explosion occurred in the fourth. The team unleashed a flurry of points, particularly from three-point range, extending the lead to its maximum (34–14 in that quarter, bringing the total to 86–48). Although Tombouctou showed resilience by winning the final period (28–17), it was insufficient to overturn the substantial deficit, allowing Al-Ahly Benghazi to close out the game with a comfortable 103–76 margin.

With this success, the Libyan basketball representative continues its impressive run on the continent and stands one step away from claiming the title of African Western Division champion. Al-Ahly Benghazi is set to face the winner of the other semi-final, between Ghana’s Spintex Knights and Ivory Coast’s Jeunesse Sportive de Bingerville (JSB), in the final on Sunday. This achievement marks a significant stride toward forging a new chapter for the sport in Libya
