Al-Taher Al-Ba’our, the Acting Foreign Minister in Libya’s Government of National Unity, received Liu Jian, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Libya. This marks the first official meeting following the Chinese Embassy’s resumption of operations from within the capital, Tripoli, and was attended by Al-Hassan Rabiha, Director of the Asia and Australia Affairs Department.
At the start of the meeting, Al-Ba’our welcomed the return of the Chinese diplomatic mission to conduct its duties from the Libyan capital. The Minister underscored the government’s full support for the diplomatic team to begin its work and engage effectively with relevant Libyan institutions. Al-Ba’our deemed the move a critical indicator of positive developments in Libyan–Chinese relations, particularly in the sectors of trade, technology, investment, and economy.
The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the importance of promptly reactivating the Embassy’s Consular Section to facilitate services for Libyan citizens. He also called for urgent action to resume stalled Chinese projects in the country and launch new initiatives in cooperation with Chinese companies, thereby serving the mutual interests of both nations. Al-Ba’our concluded by conveying his greetings to the Chinese Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, and expressed his hope for the continued growth of bilateral relations.
For his part, the Chinese Chargé d’Affaires, Liu Jian, expressed his sincere appreciation for the efforts of the Libyan Foreign Ministry, which enabled the Embassy to resume its activities in Tripoli after a disruption spanning more than a decade. Liu Jian affirmed Beijing’s commitment to developing its strategic partnership with Libya and achieving practical, tangible results on the ground.
