Ahmed Lanqi, a member of the High Council of State, has predicted an escalation of a popular movement directed against the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).
In an exclusive statement to Almanassa, Lanqi noted that observers tracking the UN mission’s activities in Libya can clearly see the “scale of the obstacles” being placed in the way of its plan by numerous official bodies. He suggested that this represents an effort to thwart “any path that leads to free and fair elections.”
Lanqi added that, “like many others,” he anticipates an increase in popular mobilisation against the mission, which could potentially reach the point of demanding the termination of its mandate and its departure from Libyan territory.
