Following the signing of a funding agreement between the Qatari government and the UN Mission for the roadmap proposed by UN Envoy Hanna Tetteh, House of Representatives member Saeed Amgheeb has called for an emergency session of the council.
Amgheeb described the deal as a “flagrant intervention” in Libya’s internal affairs and an infringement upon national sovereignty. In a post on his Facebook page, Amgheeb demanded that the sole item on the agenda for this proposed session must be the immediate decision to expel the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), accusing the mission of “fiddling with the national decision.”
Furthermore, Amgheeb urged that the reins of the next phase be handed over to the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces, led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, asserting that it is the most capable entity to safeguard stability and national sovereignty. The MP also called for “electing Field Marshal Haftar as President of the country” during the same emergency session.
The lawmaker stressed that foreign interference in Libya had “reached an intolerable level,” emphasising the necessity of adopting a decisive stance to halt what he termed “subservience and compromising the nation’s assets and the people’s dignity.”
