Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the General Commander of the Armed Forces, hosted a delegation consisting of elders from the tribes of the Western and Interior Nafusa region at the Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar Military City. The meeting was attended by the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government, Osama Hammad, the Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Khalid Haftar, and the Director of the General Commander’s Office, Lieutenant General Ayoub Bousif.
The General Commander welcomed the delegation, praising the tribes for their “honourable” national stances and their pivotal role in unifying ranks and supporting national reconciliation efforts. He asserted that Libya’s tribes are the “true support for the nation” and the “safety valve” that preserved the country’s unity during the most difficult circumstances.
For their part, the elders expressed their deep appreciation for the role of the Armed Forces in maintaining security and stability. They confirmed their absolute support for efforts to secure borders and assets and confront cross-border gangs, stressing that the Armed Forces represent “the lifeline for Libyans.”
In his remarks, the General Commander pointed to the state of “resentment” among the people due to negligence in cities and villages and the absence of reconstruction and development projects, despite the availability of natural resources and wealth. He added that any state “where corruption overshadows the conduct of its institutions, where weapons proliferate outside its authority, which fails to protect public funds, is considered a failed state.” He concluded that resolving the political crisis is the “key” to building a strong state that fully discharges its duties toward its people, and that “the will of the people alone” must determine the path to resolution and restore the state’s prestige and stature.
