Member of the House of Representatives Ali Al-Takbali expressed profound astonishment at the United Nations’ decision to allow a foreign state to finance the intra-Libyan dialogue track. Al-Takbali described the funding as constituting unacceptable interference in the country’s internal affairs.
In statements given to Al Masar TV, Al-Takbali cautioned that external funding for the dialogue should not be viewed as political backing but rather as financial support that could negatively impact the independence of Libyan political decision-making, especially if the donor state is biased towards a specific party.
The MP pointed out that the trust placed in the UN Mission was based on the hope of achieving progress toward a political resolution, yet the signing of the recent agreement has reset the entire situation to its starting point. Al-Takbali urged everyone who has received an invitation to participate in the dialogue under the umbrella of this foreign funding to reject it, warning of the potential emergence of a new wave of polarisation and corruption through bribery that could derail the process.
