A delegation from the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), led by Councillor Aguila Saleh and including HoR Bureau Chief Saleh Galma and several members, such as Saleh Ifhaima, conducted an official visit to Rome, the Italian capital. The purpose of the visit was to cement parliamentary and diplomatic relations between the two countries and activate cooperation tracks.
The Libyan delegation was received at the Italian Chamber of Deputies (Camera dei deputati) by its President, Lorenzo Fontana. The constructive talks focused on mechanisms for exchanging parliamentary expertise and activating institutional communication channels, with the aim of advancing mutual interests and supporting stability and development efforts in Libya.
The delegation also held a meeting with Italian Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Giorgio Silli, during which both sides addressed the primary challenges facing Libya. The discussions prioritised security, development, and reconstruction files, alongside the latest developments in political dialogue and efforts to consolidate stability. In this context, the delegation referenced the crucial role played by Libyan oversight bodies, particularly the Administrative Control Authority and the Audit Bureau, in monitoring plans and preventing potential deviations that could restrict the expansion of public spending, a function that HoR Finance Committee Chairman Omar Tantoush described as a “historic achievement.”
Concluding the meetings, the delegation reaffirmed the HoR’s commitment to advancing cooperation with Italy, stressing that open dialogue represents the optimal way to address common challenges and build a better future for both nations. This commitment aims to enhance Libya’s role as an active partner in the region and serve the interests of the Libyan people.
