The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) released a strongly worded statement condemning the murder of Khansaa Mujahed, who was fatally shot in the Janzour district of Tripoli last night. The Mission extended its deepest condolences to the victim’s family.
The UN Mission affirmed that this tragic incident highlights the critical need to address all similar cases of killing, demanding that full accountability be ensured. UNSMIL issued an urgent call to the competent authorities to conduct a rapid and transparent investigation, and to work towards bringing the perpetrators of the crime to justice.
Furthermore, the Mission warned against the troubling pattern of sustained violence targeting women, particularly female activists in public life, underscoring the severity of this trend. In this context, the Mission demanded that all parties exercise necessary restraint and fully cooperate with the investigation procedures, cautioning against any actions that could escalate tensions, thereby ensuring justice is served and the assailants are apprehended.
