The Audit Bureau’s Chief, Khaled Shakshak, met with the Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator, Olrika Richardson, at the Bureau’s headquarters in Tripoli. The meeting, which was also attended by a delegation from the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and several department and office directors from the Bureau, focused on matters of public finance control and institutional support.
Richardson underscored the vital role played by the Audit Bureau in reinforcing state stability and establishing solid institutions through effective oversight of public funds and concerted anti-corruption efforts.
Shakshak and Richardson similarly discussed the Bureau’s core functions in promoting transparency, ensuring accountability, and controlling public expenditure. They jointly affirmed the critical necessity for the Bureau’s complete independence and impartiality to guarantee the objectivity and accuracy of its supervisory reports.
Furthermore, the parties reviewed the existing agreement between the Bureau and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This accord is designed to enhance institutional competencies and provide technical support to the Bureau, aiming to achieve tangible results in institutional development and service delivery, and to ensure the implementation of development programmes in line with the nation’s priorities.
