Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the General Commander of the Armed Forces, hosted a meeting with a cross-section of academic, activist, media, and human rights figures at the Military City. The session was also attended by Libyan Prime Minister Osama Hammad, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General First Grade Khaled Haftar, along with Assistant General Commander Major General Bassem Mohammed Al-Buaishi, and Chief of Staff Office Director Lieutenant General First Grade Ayoub Busif.
During the engagement, the General Commander highlighted the fragile reality currently facing Libya, affirming that the protracted political crisis has spawned direct threats to national unity and social cohesion. Haftar underscored that the nation stands at a critical juncture, asserting that the sovereign will of the Libyan people alone possesses the power to tip the scales, halt the state of chaos, and definitively launch the path of reconstruction, development, and building across all regions.
For their part, the attendees expressed their full support for the Armed Forces in their efforts to safeguard the nation’s security and stability. They collectively stressed that a genuine and lasting solution to the Libyan crisis must spring from pure national resolve, not from external interference, whether from the UN Mission or any other international actors.
Concluding the meeting, the General Commander emphasized the profound national responsibility incumbent upon societal elites, including activists, journalists, and thinkers. He noted that their pivotal role is to drive the national scene towards radical change, ensuring the transition from a state of weakness and confusion to a new phase centered on state-building, reinforcing unity, and securing the cohesion of the social fabric.
