The General Prosecutor’s Office has revealed the launch of a wide-ranging investigation following the discovery that a medical equipment sterilisation substance, branded “Instru Zym,” was circulating in the local market. The probe was initiated after the German manufacturer, DR. DEPPE GMBH, confirmed it had not exported any quantity of the product to Libya over the past five years.
Initial investigative procedures carried out by the Judicial Seizure Affairs Unit confirmed that the counterfeit product was actively being used within a number of Libyan health institutions. Consequently, the General Prosecutor’s Office opened a file, with the General Administration for Combating Smuggling and Narcotics at the Customs Authority taking charge of a portion of the investigation.
The subsequent searches and enquiries successfully located the sites where the trademark was being forged, leading to the seizure of significant quantities of the counterfeit substance. Furthermore, one manager of a company specialising in the import of medical supplies was arrested on suspicion of involvement in the case.
The investigator subsequently ordered the manager’s pre-trial detention and issued further warrants for the arrest and summons of the remaining individuals implicated in the case, pending the completion of the investigation.
