The Minister for Women’s Affairs, Hourya Al-Tarmal, held a meeting at the Prime Ministry office with Florence Bassetti, the UN Women Representative for Libya and Tunisia. The officials discussed avenues for cooperation and the development of joint programmes aimed at supporting and empowering Libyan women across various sectors.
The meeting was also attended by Aisha Shalabi, a member of the House of Representatives, who reaffirmed her full support for the women’s empowerment agenda. Shalabi stressed the critical importance of unifying the efforts of national institutions and international organisations to enhance policies and programmes that promote women’s participation in public life.
Minister Al-Tarmal, for her part, underscored her Ministry’s commitment to implementing its strategic vision. This vision is focused on boosting women’s involvement in the security sector and strengthening their social, legal, and economic presence. The strategy also includes supporting female entrepreneurs, developing skills, and building capacity to ensure women’s effective participation in national development.
Concluding the meeting, Al-Tarmal expressed her appreciation for the technical support and input provided by UN Women. She emphasised the pivotal role that Libyan female leaders play in advancing peace efforts, supporting political dialogue, and driving the country’s trajectory towards stability.
