At his office in Benghazi, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, received a high-level US delegation. The delegation included the Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Lieutenant General Dagvin Anderson, and the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy to Libya, Jeremy Brent.
The meeting was attended by senior Libyan commanders, including the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, the Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, the Assistant Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Basem Mohammed Al-Bouaishi, and the Director of the Commander-in-Chief’s Office, Lieutenant General Ayyoub Abu Saif.
Field Marshal Haftar welcomed the visiting delegation, commending the distinguished partnership relations between Libya and the United States across various sectors.
For his part, Lieutenant General Anderson emphasised the depth of the ties between the two sides, acknowledging the pivotal role of the General Command in establishing security and stability in Libya and the positive implications of that stability for the region at large.
During the talks, discussions focused on the importance of strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing joint coordination and cooperation in military and security affairs. The dialogue specifically addressed counter-terrorism and anti-extremism efforts, in addition to confronting human smuggling networks and illegal migration. The two sides also exchanged views on developing joint training programmes to elevate the capabilities and readiness of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. Furthermore, they explored avenues for advancing cooperation in economic, commercial, and other fields that serve the mutual interests of both countries.
