Following up on the discussions held with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, held a meeting at the General Command headquarters in Benghazi. Haftar met with the Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Lieutenant General Dagvin Anderson, accompanied by the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy to Libya, Jeremy Brent, and the accompanying delegation.
The meeting focused on deliberating the latest developments at the regional and international levels. Both sides reviewed joint efforts to counter transnational security threats, a process that is seen to enhance regional cooperation and contribute to the overall stability of the area.
Furthermore, the parties explored ways to advance military cooperation between the General Command and AFRICOM. Discussions specifically included joint training programmes aimed at bolstering the efficiency and capabilities of the Libyan Armed Forces. They also followed up on the crucial issue of lifting the embargo imposed on the armament of the Armed Forces.
