The Libyan Committee for Regulating Meat and Poultry Imports held an expanded meeting at the Libyan Embassy in Brasília, Brazil. The session was chaired by Suhail Bousheha, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade in the Government of National Unity, with the participation of Libya’s Ambassador to Brazil, the Director of International Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from Dar Al-Ifta, the National Center for Standards and Metrology, the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as Brazilian export unions and halal certification companies.
Discussions focused on reviewing halal certification mechanisms, ensuring the auditing of production and slaughter chains, product traceability procedures, and assessing the readiness of Brazilian factories to comply with new national standards. The meeting also addressed the issue of multiple accreditation references, aiming to establish a unified national framework for halal products in Libya.
Deputy Minister Bousheha stressed the government’s priority to ensure suppliers comply with both religious and health regulations, safeguard the health of Libyan citizens, and maintain the reliability and smooth flow of food supplies.
Participants agreed to continue field visits to slaughterhouses and factories exporting to Libya, provide the Libyan committee with detailed monitoring and technical cooperation plans, and maintain direct communication to implement agreed decisions and recommendations.
The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of building commercial trust between Libya and Brazil in support of food security and the quality of imported products.
