The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the selection of Libyan international referee Ahmed Al-Shalmani among the Video Assistant Referees (VAR) who will officiate at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 in Morocco.
His inclusion highlights the growing presence of Libyan refereeing in continental competitions, particularly with the increasing participation of Libyan officials in major tournaments in recent years.
Al-Shalmani is one of only 14 VAR referees approved for the tournament, reflecting CAF’s strong confidence in his technical expertise and professional capabilities.
The upcoming 2025 edition in Morocco is expected to feature an expanded use of VAR technology across all stages of the competition, ensuring fairer decisions and aligning with modern football standards.
