Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, received a high-level delegation from the European Union at the General Command headquarters. The delegation included the EU Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, the Commander of the EUNAVFOR MED Operation Irini, Admiral Marco Casapieri, and the Head of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM), Jan Vyčítal.
The meeting was attended by senior Libyan commanders, namely: Deputy Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Khaled Haftar, Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Bassem Mohammed Al-Bouaishi, and the Director of the Commander-in-Chief’s Office, Lieutenant General Ayyoub Abu Saif.
During the session, the two sides discussed the latest local and regional developments, as well as ways to enhance joint efforts in combating illegal migration, human trafficking, and drug networks.
The Commander-in-Chief stressed the significant role of the European Union and the importance of its support for regional security and stability. In return, the EU delegation commended the substantial efforts undertaken by the General Command in securing Libya’s land and sea borders.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to continue coordination and joint work between the parties to achieve lasting stability in Libya.
