Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, paid an official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, where he was received by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in the presence of Major General Hassan Rashad, Director of General Intelligence, General Khaled Haftar, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, and General Saddam Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief.
Haftar expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s role in supporting Libya’s stability, praising Cairo’s steadfast positions in support of the Libyan people since the outset of the crisis. He underscored his keenness to maintain ongoing coordination and consultation with the Egyptian leadership regarding developments in Libya and the wider region.
According to the official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, the meeting addressed bilateral relations between Libya and Egypt, reaffirming the deep historical ties between the two countries. The discussions emphasized Cairo’s support for Libya’s sovereignty, stability, unity, and territorial integrity, alongside the need to end foreign interference and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan territory.
Presidential spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy added that the talks also focused on advancing political solutions to the Libyan crisis, particularly efforts aimed at holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, with Egypt reiterating its continued support for Libya’s national institutions.
The meeting further reviewed regional developments, especially the situation in Sudan, stressing the importance of reaching a peaceful settlement that preserves Sudan’s stability and territorial unity, given its close connection to the national security of both Libya and Egypt.
