Member of the House of Representatives Ali Al‑Tukbali said that the UN Support Mission in Libya is, in his view, attempting to deceive Libyans, stressing that its actions do not contribute to resolving the crisis but instead prolong the conflict.
Al‑Tukbali explained in a statement to “Al‑Manssa” that the mission is trying to present itself as a sponsor of dialogue among Libyan figures, yet the so‑called “structured dialogue” it announced does not reflect a genuine intention to find a solution. He noted that Libyans were initially optimistic when the mission said it would bring together 120 participants to discuss the crisis, but he argued that such a large number turns the meeting into a general session where attendees speak and then “a president is imposed from above.”
He added that what raises concern is the mission’s announcement that it would bring in a donor who is “not neutral” and aligned with a particular party — a party that, according to him, has acted arrogantly for years because of such support.
Al‑Tukbali stressed that any funding for the mission should go through the UN Secretariat, not directly to the mission in Libya. He said the mission justified the funding by claiming it needed the support and that other countries would contribute, a justification he believes reveals an attempt to push something through under the guise of legitimacy.
He concluded that the mission is trying to present itself as acting in good faith and seeking to save Libya, but in reality — as he put it — its actions do not help resolve the crisis and instead contribute to prolonging the conflict.
