The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, welcomed the resumption of the electoral process in several municipalities belonging to the third group, following its suspension since last August. The resumption covered “Benghazi, Sabha, Sirte, Tobruk, Tukrah, Qasr Al Jidi, Gminis, Suluq, and Al Abyar.”
Dbeibah described this as a highly important step for empowering citizens to exercise their inherent right to elect their representatives to the municipal councils with full freedom and responsibility.
The Prime Minister further asserted that the ballot box remains the optimum path for expressing the Libyan will and building legitimate institutions that reflect the people’s aspirations. He stressed that ensuring the success of the municipal election process constitutes a fundamental pillar for supporting the conduct of parliamentary and presidential elections across the country, thereby achieving stability and establishing the principles of a state of law and institutions.
