Abdelhakim Al‑Shaab, a member of the Board of the High National Elections Commission, announced that the Commission has completed its preparations for holding the presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for April 2026. He noted that the Commission’s previous experience in organizing elections across more than 110 municipalities demonstrated its ability to manage the process efficiently, according to voter feedback.
Al‑Shaab explained that the Commission has submitted its estimated election budget to the House of Representatives and is awaiting formal approval. He added that the most recent nine municipal council elections recorded no complaints regarding violations, while the door remains open for any appeals before the courts.
He also highlighted the noticeable decline in voter participation in recent years, stressing that this trend requires in‑depth studies and academic conferences to understand its causes. Al‑Shaab affirmed the Commission’s commitment to encouraging broader public engagement in future electoral processes.
