Emad Al-Tarabulsi, Acting Minister of Interior in Libya’s Government of National Unity, participated in the International Conference of the Global Alliance Against Migrant Smuggling, convened in Brussels with the attendance of over fifty countries and international organizations. The conference underscored Libya’s commitment to combating illegal migration and organized crime.
Discussions focused on strengthening international cooperation against smuggling networks, enhancing information-sharing systems, building security capacities to address illegal migration, and reviewing successful global practices in countering this cross-border challenge.
On the sidelines, Minister Al-Tarabulsi held several meetings:
– Meeting with the EU Commissioner for Migration
Al-Tarabulsi met Magnus Brunner, European Commissioner for Home Affairs and Migration, to explore ways of reinforcing cooperation between Libya and the EU. Discussions centered on supporting Libya’s national plan to combat irregular migration, particularly the National Program for Return and Deportation. He reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to voluntary return and safe deportation operations, dismantling smuggling networks, and strengthening border management capacities.
– Meeting with Jordan’s Interior Minister
In talks with Jordanian Interior Minister Mazen Al-Faraya, the two sides discussed joint security issues, focusing on training, capacity-building, and programs to enhance the skills of Libya’s Ministry of Interior personnel.
– Meeting with Iraq’s Interior Minister
Al-Tarabulsi also met Iraqi Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, and they discussed expanding security cooperation, particularly in combating drug trafficking.
These engagements reflect Libya’s drive to broaden international partnerships and reaffirm its commitment to an integrated approach that secures borders, counters organized crime, and safeguards human rights in line with international standards.
