The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration, Dr Badr Abdelatty, held a telephone conversation on Tuesday with Massad Boulos, the senior advisor to the US President on Arab and African affairs. The call forms part of the ongoing strategic coordination between Cairo and Washington, reflecting the depth of the partnership between the two nations.
Discussions focused primarily on pressing regional issues across the African continent. Both parties reviewed the evolving situations in Sudan and the Horn of Africa, alongside rising tensions in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Great Lakes region.
On the Libyan file, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for the country’s unity and territorial integrity, stressing the vital importance of preserving Libya’s national institutions. The Egyptian Foreign Minister underscored the necessity of reaching a comprehensive political settlement that ensures presidential and parliamentary elections are held simultaneously.
The two officials also emphasised that the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries from Libyan soil remains a priority. They further highlighted that the dismantling of armed militias is an indispensable step towards securing long-term stability for the Libyan state and the wider region.
