The British Embassy in Libya has announced that the UK Defence Attaché welcomed a high-level Libyan military delegation last week, led by the Assistant Chief of the General Staff, Lieutenant General Salahuddin Al-Namroush. The official visit marks a historic milestone, being the first of its kind by senior Libyan military officials to the United Kingdom in over a decade.
In a statement posted on social media platform X, the embassy explained that the visit focused on showcasing the UK’s global approach to professional military education and leadership development. The delegation held extensive meetings at the UK Defence Academy, where expertise was exchanged regarding institutional development and the construction of modern military frameworks.
The embassy emphasised that the talks held at the Defence Academy in Shrivenham transcended a mere introductory tour, focusing instead on building mutual trust and outlining the future of Libya’s military architecture. These discussions are seen as laying the groundwork for a much deeper bilateral partnership.
According to the embassy, this cooperation is set to pave the way for Libyan officers to enrol in leading UK military training and education programmes. Such an initiative aims to embed British standards at the heart of the ongoing transformation and development of Libya’s military institutions.
