President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi opened his meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday by stressing the importance of advancing bilateral cooperation. He praised the convening of the second ministerial conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, hosted by Egypt, as a strong boost to ties between Russia and African countries. El-Sisi also emphasized moving forward on strategic joint projects, foremost the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Area and the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
The talks then turned to regional files. Both sides stressed the need to halt the war in Gaza, consolidate a ceasefire, and prevent any regional escalation, while affirming respect for state sovereignty and the preservation of territorial integrity and national resources. They also reviewed developments in Libya and Sudan within this context.
In conclusion, the two sides discussed the Russia–Ukraine crisis. President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s support for efforts to resolve the conflict through political means and expressed Cairo’s readiness to contribute to international efforts aimed at ending the crisis.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, Badr Abdelatty, and on the Russian side, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, according to a statement by Presidential Spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy.
