The Libyan General Authority for Monitoring Media Content (GAMMC) has awarded its 2025 “Clean Media” prize to Almanassa, recognizing the outlet’s commitment to professional ethics and its success in maintaining objectivity and accuracy throughout the current year. The award was presented at an official ceremony to the Director of the Tripoli office, Hani Al-Hamidi, and the correspondent Saleh bin Talib.
According to the official merit certificate issued under Decree No. 90 of 2025 by the head of the authority, Jalal Mohammed Othman, the selection followed a thorough review. The GAMMC confirmed that Almanassa met all established criteria for media performance, noting that its coverage remained responsible and free from disinformation—a contribution deemed vital to the integrity of the local media landscape.
The authority had announced the return of the prize in November, aiming to encourage institutions that prioritize neutrality and combat hate speech. The 2025 win for Almanassa breathes new life into the initiative, which was first launched in September 2023 and awarded to the fact-checking platform “Tahara.” The prize had notably been withheld in 2024 after the authority determined that no media organization had met the required standards.
This recognition of Almanassa’s role in establishing responsible national journalism highlights its ability to build public trust at a time when the Libyan media environment faces significant challenges.
