The Executive Council of the Arab Women Organization convened in Tripoli with an opening address by Director General Dr. Fadia Kiwan, who emphasized the importance of policies and initiatives that empower women and reinforce their active participation in development.
She expressed appreciation to Libya for hosting the meeting, reaffirming the organization’s tradition of holding Executive Council sessions in the country that has chaired the council for over two decades. She also welcomed Sudanese Minister Salima Ishaq in her first participation, praised the presence of ambassadors from Algeria and Tunisia, and acknowledged Ibrahim Abu Zreiba of the High Committee for Financial Oversight, along with members joining virtually from Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine.
The agenda included reviewing achievements and implemented programs, assessing financial performance and approving the final accounts, and adopting the work plan for the coming year. Members’ feedback was to be heard to further improve the organization’s performance. Kiwan stressed that the meeting aims to strengthen women’s role in development and peacebuilding, while addressing the challenges they face amid conflicts and crises.
The session witnessed broad participation from prominent Arab officials, including Dr. Houria Al-Turmal, Chair of the Executive Council, and Mr. Fouad Al-Jubouri, Director of the Department of Arab Organizations and Unions at the Arab League, alongside representatives from ten Arab countries—reflecting the strong Arab and international presence in the council’s work.
