In Cairo, during the Second Russia–Africa Ministerial Conference held on December 19–20, 2025, the Libyan file dominated discussions between Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Al-Nafti and his counterparts, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty and Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. The ministers stressed the need to push toward a consensual, Libyan-led political settlement under the auspices of the United Nations, while reaffirming continued coordination within the trilateral consultation mechanism. Tunisia will host the next meeting, aimed at bolstering regional stability and addressing shared challenges, foremost among them the Libyan crisis.
The meeting also highlighted the advanced level of bilateral relations between Tunisia and both Egypt and Algeria, with calls to intensify cooperation to implement the outcomes of the 18th session of the Tunisian–Egyptian High Joint Committee held in Cairo in September 2025, and the 23rd session of the Tunisian–Algerian High Joint Committee hosted in Tunis in December 2025.
On the sidelines of the conference, Al-Nafti held a working session with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where both sides emphasized the need to follow up on the results of the eighth session of the Joint Intergovernmental Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation. Priority areas included trade, transport, health, energy, and education, in preparation for the committee’s next session scheduled to take place in Tunisia in 2026.
Al-Nafti also met Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, with discussions focusing on preparations for upcoming milestones in the first half of 2026 and on intensifying efforts to strengthen cooperation, particularly in trade and reviving joint investment projects between the two countries.
