The Turkish Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has issued a stern warning to media outlets against the dissemination of unverified information or unsubstantiated claims regarding the crash of the Libyan military aircraft. The plane went down shortly after departing from Ankara Esenboğa Airport en route to Tripoli with a high-level military delegation on board.
In a formal statement shared via social media, the regulator emphasised that official bodies are monitoring the situation closely and insisted that news coverage must be restricted to statements issued by competent authorities. RTÜK urged journalists and broadcasters to exercise extreme caution and rely solely on official briefings to avoid misleading the public.
The council further expressed its confidence that the media community would uphold its professional responsibilities, contributing to the provision of accurate and reliable information while avoiding the speculation that often surrounds such tragic incidents.
