World football’s governing body, Fifa, has officially approved the 2026 international list for Libyan referees, clearing them to officiate in regional, continental, and global competitions for the forthcoming season. The endorsement is seen as a culmination of the Libyan Football Federation’s efforts to modernize its refereeing standards through rigorous training and fitness programmes, aimed at strengthening the presence of Libyan officials on the international stage.
The prestigious list for field referees features prominent figures including Mutaz Al-Shalmani, Abdulwahid Huraywidah, Mohamed Al-Shuhumi, and Ahmed Al-Shalmani, alongside Abdulbasit Shuhoub and Mohamed Al-Zarrouq. Notably, both Mutaz and Ahmed Al-Shalmani have been certified as Video Assistant Referees (VAR), reflecting the growing integration of Libyan officials into high-stakes technological departments of the game.
The assistant referee category includes Majdi Kamel, Bassem Saif Al-Nasr, Munji Bushkewah, Hassan Al-Toumi, Salem Al-Marakibi, and Mohamed Al-Tayyar. Beyond traditional football, FIFA ratified appointments for other disciplines, with Ali Bushkewah, Rafea Al-Houti, and Mohamed Al-Sertawi named as futsal referees. Hussein Al-Ajni, Ayoub Al-Ferjani, Abdelmonem Bosloua, Munther Al-Obaidi, and Abdul Majeed Al-Saghir will represent the beach soccer contingent.
