The 173rd Commando Brigade of the Ground Forces Command has intercepted a massive shipment of narcotics in southern Libya, marking one of the most significant blows to organised crime in the region recently. During the operation, security forces seized 285 crates containing approximately 2,137,000 “Lyrica” pills. The bust is part of an ongoing strategic campaign aimed at dismantling smuggling networks and safeguarding national security from the influx of illicit substances.
Following the seizure, the Military Prosecution in the southern region established a specialised committee to oversee the immediate destruction of the confiscated drugs. The disposal process was carried out in strict accordance with legal protocols, under the protection of a joint security task force including the 603rd Infantry Battalion, the Military Police, and the 105th Infantry Battalion.
This operation underscores the heightened vigilance of military units stationed in Libya’s southern territories and their commitment to a policy of zero tolerance toward drug trafficking. Authorities stated that the successful interception and subsequent destruction of the shipment sent a clear message to smuggling syndicates, reaffirming the state’s resolve to maintain order and public health amidst broader regional security challenges.
