A harrowing case of child abuse and neglect has ended in the death of an orphaned boy in Tripoli, leading to the arrest of several suspects accused of systematic starvation and physical assault. The grim discovery began when a medical clinic reported that a man of African nationality had brought a child in critical condition for treatment, only to flee with the boy when the facility attempted to notify the police. Following an intensive manhunt by the Force and Support Department in coordination with the Suwani police, the suspect was intercepted while attempting to flee the area with his wife.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted that the child had died and directed officers to a property where the body had been concealed. Investigations revealed a tragic back-story: the boy, who had lost both parents, was supposedly under the guardianship of his aunt. However, instead of care, he was subjected to brutal physical violence and denied food for prolonged periods. A forensic report later confirmed that the cause of death was acute starvation combined with repeated physical trauma.
The investigation led to a second arrest; a woman identified as “Halima” was found hiding after allegedly participating in the assaults. Security authorities have formalised the case files and referred all involved parties to the public prosecutor. The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the capital, serving as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of orphaned children.
