Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli: Two Aircraft to Repatriate 173 Migrants from Libya

The Iraqi Embassy in Tripoli has finalised all legal and logistical arrangements to ensure the safe return of Iraqi migrants who fell victim to human trafficking and smuggling networks. Ahmed Al-Sahaf, the Chargé d’Affaires, stated that the embassy has provided humanitarian assistance, including medical supplies and essential living provisions, to those held in illegal migration centres in the Libyan capital ahead of their departure.

Al-Sahaf revealed that, following directives from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, two C130 aircraft have been allocated to conduct repatriation flights on the 21st and 22nd of this month. These flights will carry 173 Iraqi nationals who had entered Libya illegally. Part of a government-backed voluntary return initiative, the operation will include specialised medical teams to monitor the health and safety of the returnees throughout their journey from Tripoli to Iraq.

The Chargé d’Affaires commended the cooperation of the Libyan authorities managing the migration centres. He emphasised that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the guidance of Minister Fuad Hussein and in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government, remains committed to protecting Iraqi youth from smuggling syndicates. This repatriation effort is the result of intensive diplomatic coordination aimed at reuniting citizens with their families and resolving the hardships caused by illegal migration.
