Sharaf al-Din: Structured Dialogue Insufficient to Prepare for Presidential Elections

Najat Sharaf al-Din, a member of the High Council of State, has asserted that the “structured dialogue” is inadequate for establishing the necessary conditions to hold elections, particularly the presidential vote. In statements made to Al-Masar TV, Sharaf al-Din pointed to the practical difficulties posed by the country’s deep political rift, noting that it is currently nearly impossible for a candidate from the eastern region to campaign in the west. She emphasised that achieving a consensus on the legitimacy of the election results is far more critical than the mere act of holding the vote itself. Furthermore, she highlighted that feedback received by the UN mission from various Libyan factions, alongside the outputs of the Advisory Committee, confirms a broad consensus: the formation of a single, unified government is a fundamental prerequisite for ensuring a legitimate and successful electoral process.
