The British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Reynolds, conducted a field visit to Sirte to assess the reconstruction projects currently underway. During his official meetings, the Ambassador expressed his gratitude for the warm reception, specifically praising the executive vision spearheaded by the Director General of the National Development Agency, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Ferjani, and the effective coordination with the Sirte Municipality. Reynolds emphasized that this visit provided British diplomacy with a genuine opportunity to witness the scale of achievements in the infrastructure and public service sectors, which reflect a solid local will to overcome years of conflict and destruction.

The field tour included a detailed inspection of the Sirte Free Zone project, a fundamental pillar of the city’s economic strategy. The Ambassador received in-depth technical briefings regarding the structural and logistical plans designed to transform Sirte into a commercial hub connecting various Libyan regions. He expressed his admiration for the remarkable pace of work, noting that Sirte—which a decade ago was the theater for joint British-Libyan military operations against ISIS—has today become a model for a recovering city that has successfully attracted international attention through its security stability and accelerated developmental movement.

In the context of strengthening bilateral ties, the visit was not limited to developmental aspects but also encompassed strategic security dimensions. Ambassador Reynolds revealed London’s aspirations to resume the momentum of military cooperation with the Libyan side this coming April, through participation in the international “Flintlock” exercise. The visit concluded with political messages reaffirming international support for the paths of reconstruction and local development. It underscored that the improvements in public services and the advancement of major strategic projects in Sirte are paving the way toward a sustainable and stable future, restoring the city’s vital role within the nation’s economic and political landscape.
