Saipem 10000 Drillship Heads to Libyan Waters for Extended Mission

The Italian drillship Saipem 10000 has departed Egypt’s Zohr field, charting a course for Libyan waters to embark on an assignment expected to last several months. This strategic shift, reported by Almanassa Energy, reflects a temporary reallocation of the vessel’s operations between key production hubs in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Owned by the Italian energy major Eni, the vessel has been stationed in Egyptian waters since January 2025. Over the course of a full year, it conducted extensive drilling and development work at the Zohr field—one of the Mediterranean’s largest gas discoveries—before its recent redeployment to Libya. According to the revised operational schedule, Saipem 10000 is slated to return to Egypt in the third quarter of 2026 to resume deep-water drilling activities at the Zohr site following the conclusion of its Libyan mission.
