Following a failed incursion by criminal groups aimed at destabilising the frontier, the Chief of General Staff, General Khaled Haftar, conducted an extensive field inspection of military units deployed near the Al-Toum border crossing. This strategic visit served to assess the combat readiness of forces stationed at this critical gateway for national security. The inspection follows a “treacherous” assault that was recently repelled by vigilant troops, preventing any breach of the sovereign territory.

During the tour, General Haftar reviewed deployment tactics and counter-threat strategies with field commanders, focusing on curbing cross-border smuggling and clandestine infiltration. He praised the “bravery and discipline” exhibited by the soldiers during the recent skirmish, asserting that their steadfastness is a testament to their commitment to national defense. Issuing a stern warning to criminal syndicates, the General declared that Libya’s security remains a “red line,” and any attempts to compromise it will be met with an uncompromising and decisive response.
Concluding his visit, the Chief of General Staff reaffirmed that security operations along the border would persist under a highly coordinated strategic framework, ensuring comprehensive control and denying criminal networks any haven. He emphasised the necessity of adhering to military protocols and respecting civilian rights during these operations. General Haftar reiterated that Al-Toum region remains a top priority for the General Command as part of its broader vision to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity and eradicate illicit activities.
