Officials from Libya and Germany have convened to conduct an audit of their bilateral development agenda, focusing on the efficacy of German-funded technical assistance. Ashraf al-Tayeb, head of international cooperation at the Libyan Foreign Ministry, met with Katrin Ohlers, the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development’s (BMZ) director for North Africa, to review the progress of GIZ-implemented projects. The talks scrutinised key sectors including public health, local governance, and the burgeoning renewable energy field, aiming to ensure these initiatives are tightly aligned with Libya’s immediate national requirements.

The dialogue addressed the systemic hurdles—ranging from funding gaps to administrative bottlenecks—that have slowed the implementation of institutional capacity-building programmes. Al-Tayeb underscored that international support must translate into sustainable local expertise, while Ohlers emphasised the need for rigorous monitoring and evaluation to mitigate delays. Both parties agreed that the current partnership is vital for stabilising public services and modernising state institutions through technical training.
