Al-Taher Al-Baour, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Government of National Unity, received on Sunday the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Libya, Ma Xueliang, in his capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Director of Asia and Australia Affairs at the Ministry, Al-Hassan Mohammed Rabha, where Al-Baour accepted a copy of the ambassador’s credentials to pave the way for his official work in Tripoli. This step signifies a full resumption of diplomatic activity between the two countries.

During the meeting, Al-Baour welcomed the Chinese Ambassador, wishing him success and affirming Libya’s eagerness to elevate the strategic partnership with Beijing, particularly in economics, infrastructure, investment, and energy, which are priorities for the current stage of sustainable development. Both sides emphasized the necessity of continuous political consultation and unifying positions in international forums, reflecting mutual trust and opening broader horizons for bilateral cooperation to meet shared aspirations and keep pace with rapid shifts in the international arena.

For his part, Ambassador Ma Xueliang expressed his country’s appreciation for the facilities provided by the Government of National Unity, which accelerated the resumption of the Chinese Embassy’s work in Libya. He stressed that China views its relationship with Libya as a strategic partnership based on mutual respect, with a focus on supporting reconstruction projects, expanding commercial exchange, and fostering training and cultural programs. The meeting concluded by reaffirming the drive toward a more effective and balanced phase in relations, serving the long-term mutual interests of both countries across various vital sectors.
