Criminal Court Convicts Defendant in the Murder of Abdul Rahman Salem Milad

The Tripoli Criminal Court delivered its final verdict in the 2024 murder case of citizen Abdul Rahman Salem Milad, upholding the conviction of the primary perpetrator while acquitting another individual. Following a comprehensive review of appeals submitted by both the Public Prosecution and the defense before the Tripoli Court of Appeal, the court sustained the death penalty (Qisas) against the first defendant for the crime of murder. Additionally, he was sentenced to seven years in prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Conversely, the court acquitted the second defendant, citing a lack of material evidence and legal grounds to prove his involvement, thereby upholding the principle that “one is innocent until proven guilty.”

The judicial ruling was grounded in extensive criminal investigations and field inquiries that confirmed the first convict’s involvement through material evidence and confessions. By combining the death penalty for murder with a prison term for weapons violations, the court underscored the rigor of Libyan law in addressing armed violence. The case underwent meticulous legal procedures—from initial police investigations to high-court reviews—ensuring full transparency and a fair trial. This process reflects the judiciary’s commitment to protecting human life and securing the rights of victims and their families through a robust legal framework.
