Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, confirmed that she discussed methods for implementing the political roadmap with the President of the Presidential Council, Mohamed al-Menfi. In a post on the “X” platform, DiCarlo noted that the meeting, held on the sidelines of the African Union Summit, reviewed ongoing efforts to unify state institutions and advance the political roadmap aimed at fostering peace, stability, and national reconciliation.
UN Envoy Meets Libyan Presidential Council Members to Break Political Deadlock
On its part, the Presidential Council stated that the meeting covered a range of political, economic, and security files, reviewing the latest developments in Libya. Both sides explored ways to enhance coordination with the UN Secretariat to support the political track and strengthen the role of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL). Additionally, they addressed joint efforts to reach a comprehensive political settlement to conclude transitional phases, while discussing practical steps to advance national reconciliation and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for national unity.
