Al-Taher Al-Baour, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Government of National Unity, held a meeting this Sunday at the ministry’s headquarters with Martin Reynolds, the UK Ambassador to Libya, the Director of the European Affairs Department, Abubaker Al-Tawil, and the Head of the Western Section, Mustafa Abu Rakhis. The primary focus was the reactivation of the Libyan-British Joint Committee, originally established in 2004. Both parties agreed on the necessity of transforming this committee into an effective platform for coordinating diplomatic efforts and following up on previously signed agreements. They emphasized the importance of setting a precise agenda for upcoming meetings, covering vital sectors such as security, economy, education, and culture, to ensure tangible outcomes.

In a related context, the two sides reviewed ways to strengthen collaboration through specialized sectoral committees to elevate technical and administrative coordination between institutions in both nations. Al-Baour pointed out that these committees are a tool for identifying promising investment opportunities and accelerating project implementation, stressing the need for clear mechanisms for periodic evaluation and follow-up to ensure the continuity of plans.

Furthermore, the officials exchanged perspectives on current regional and international issues, highlighting the political and economic shifts occurring in the region. The meeting underscored the significance of sharing expertise and information to address shared challenges, thereby enhancing regional stability and supporting a long-term strategic partnership between Tripoli and London, particularly in infrastructure, productive projects, and trade facilitation.

These diplomatic movements align with the Libyan government’s efforts to solidify ties with international partners. It is anticipated that the coming period will witness a series of technical and official meetings aimed at reviewing existing agreements and creating new pathways for economic and technical cooperation, ultimately benefiting national development and stability.
