The Embassy of Bangladesh in Libya has officially introduced e-Passport services in Benghazi, to streamline consular procedures for Bangladeshi nationals residing in the eastern region. Major General Abul Hasnat Mohammad Khairul Bashar (Habibullah), the Bangladeshi Ambassador to Libya, inaugurated the service alongside the Embassy Counselor, personally handing over the first batch of electronic passports to applicants.

The Ambassador emphasized that this initiative stems from the embassy’s commitment to serving its expatriate community across Libya, acknowledging the logistical challenges residents in the east face when traveling to Tripoli for consular matters. The service is currently being facilitated through a mobile unit operating in coordination with the embassy’s passport department. The initial phase focuses on fulfilling previously submitted applications, with plans to establish a consistent and regular schedule for future processing.

Furthermore, the Ambassador expressed his vision to broaden the reach of this program to include other key cities such as Al-Bayda, Derna, Tobruk, Ajdabiya, Al-Marj, and Sirte. This expansion aims to ensure that all community members can secure their travel documents without the burden of long-distance travel. Members of the Bangladeshi community in Benghazi welcomed the move, noting that the availability of e-passport services locally provides significant support in regularizing their legal status and simplifying official transactions.
