As part of a targeted desert sweep, patrols from the Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM) successfully intercepted two vehicles loaded with fuel intended for smuggling in the region between the Sarir oil field and Tazirbu. This operation aligns with the security strategy for the month of Ramadan, following directives from the head of the department, Major General Salah al-Khafifi, to intensify surveillance and patrolling of desert routes frequently exploited for various smuggling activities.
Border Guard Patrols in Mezda apprehend 50 illegal migrants
Under the supervision of Major General Ezzedine Bouchah, Director of the Desert Patrols Department, the Jabel al-Akhdar office, in cooperation with the central patrols office, conducted extensive field missions to secure desert corridors. During one of these sorties, a patrol apprehended four individuals—two Libyan nationals and two Sudanese nationals—traveling in two Toyota Tundra vehicles carrying quantities of fuel.
Preliminary investigations confirmed that the seized fuel was destined for smuggling out of the country. It was also noted that one of the vehicles had sustained damage after plunging into a ravine while navigating the rugged desert terrain. The detainees were transported to the Jabel al-Akhdar Desert Patrols office to complete legal procedures before their referral to the relevant judicial authorities.
