The National Human Rights Institution in Libya reported that families of detainees held at the Mitiga Main Reformation and Rehabilitation Center in Tripoli organized a protest today, Sunday, March 15, 2026, in front of the Attorney General’s Office and the Presidential Council. The protesters demanded the immediate fulfillment of their sons’ legal rights, including the execution of release orders issued by both civil and military courts. They also called for detainees to be presented before the relevant prosecution and courts within statutory deadlines, and for judicial proceedings to be expedited to ensure fair trials and prompt rulings.

Additionally, the demonstrators urged authorities to guarantee regular visitation rights and ensure humane treatment that preserves the dignity of the prisoners. The protest highlighted growing concerns regarding reports of several inmates going on a hunger strike to protest alleged mistreatment within the facility. According to the National Human Rights Institution, the families appealed to the Attorney General to intervene and direct the concerned bodies to rectify the legal and humanitarian conditions of the detainees, ensuring that all legitimate demands are met in accordance with Libyan law and international human rights standards.
