Mustafa Abdel Kabir, head of the Tunisian Observatory for Human Rights, confirmed that traffic and trade have resumed at the Ras Ajdir border crossing after a temporary blockade on the road connecting the frontier to Ben Guerdane. Speaking to Fawasel, Abdel Kabir explained that Tunisian citizens staged a protest lasting approximately one hour due to deteriorating conditions at the crossing. He noted that authorities intervened promptly to resolve the issue and restore the flow of movement between Tunisia and Libya.

Abdel Kabir attributed the recurring tension to over a year of instability at the border, fueled by a lack of full consensus between Tunisian and Libyan authorities regarding regulated goods for traders, travelers, and exporters. He pointed out that while several bilateral agreements exist, their lack of effective implementation has created anxiety among citizens on both sides and led to sporadic escalations, including occasional assaults on travelers.

Furthermore, the Observatory head highlighted a lack of unified coordination among the multiple security checkpoints on the Libyan side of the crossing as a primary concern. He observed that conflicting directives—where one gate permits the passage of certain goods or individuals while another prohibits them—have created significant confusion. This procedural inconsistency, according to Abdel Kabir, continues to complicate border transit and remains a core trigger for local unrest and operational disruption.
